4 Rainy Day Activities

0

Spring is right around the corner and as temperatures rise, my two boys immediately become outdoor creatures. The unsung praise, by my children, of spring is the rain. They both stand at the back door with their noses pressed up against the glass and mope. The rest of the rainy day is spent by me feverishly racking my brain for thing after thing to keep them entertained and from running through the house with unsent energy. I have mastered a few tricks that I keep in my rainy day bag that I’d love to share with you! They don’t require a lot of supplies, space, energy, or time. Let me help you turn the rainy days of spring into something your family actually celebrates!

Children's Activities

#1 Cardboard Box Creating– Grab any medium to large size cardboard box and crayons or markers and let them go to it. My boys have made castles, cars, space ships, drive thrus and more.

#2 Indoor Camping– Cover your kitchen or dining table with a bed sheet to create an indoor tent. They can take turn telling stories, as well as enjoy coloring in a new place! I’ve even pulled up a video of a bonfire on the tablet and let the boys “roast” marshmallows and whatever other snack they have!

#3 “Rain” Painting– What better to use blue food color for than water painting? Cover whatever area they will be painting at for protection. Fill a small container like an empty ice cube tray with water and one or two drops of blue food color. Let them paint rain and sky pictures to their hearts content!

#4 Shaving Cream Painting– Once you have used your table all morning it might need some cleaning off. Shaving cream will do just that! Do you remember doing this is elementary school? At the end of the day the teacher would come by and spray and big dollop of shaving cream on your desk and you could draw whatever you wanted till the shaving cream eventually disappeared. Enjoy watching what creations they draw as your table is wiped clean!

Don’t let the spring showers cramp your style this year. Greet it with your new found bag of tricks and expectation of a day filled with fun!

Amber
Hi Dayton Moms, my name is Amber! I am blessed with a wonderful husband of nine years along with two smart, rambunctious, and life-loving boys. I am originally from Alabama, but our family has very much grown to love this area and proud to call Dayton home! I am a stay at home mom as well as a certified postpartum doula and the owner of Delighted Doula. My passion, in addition to my family, is educating, assisting, and empowering mothers during the first few months after birth. When i’m not caring for mothers and their babies I’m searching for new allergy free recipes to make for my family (our son has a laundry list of allergies and intolerances,) meeting for coffee with friends, and finding new places for my boys to run off their energy! What I love best about motherhood is being a mom to two boys. Everything is an adventure to them and being taught how see life that way is so much fun!
