Time Is Money – Cleaning & Organizing

2

Time is money, people! Whether you are a ladder climbing career woman or a full time stay at home mama, time is money. And no one wants to waste their time and money on cleaning or organizing. I mean, we all want a clean house. It’s also safe to say we all want a functional house. While I would love for my claim-to-fame to be the person who came up with the fool proof method on how to keep your house clean and organized forever, that is not what this post is about. But today I am going to share with you three simple ways I do manage to cut down on my cleaning time while also increasing the functionality of my home.

1.) Laundry

Admit it, you rolled your eyes at the mere mention of laundry, didn’t you? I don’t blame you one bit. Laundry is definitely my most dreaded chore around the house. We’re talking complete & total kryptonite. The sorting and the washing and the drying and the hanging and the folding…and, apparently, some folks actually take their laundry OUT of the basket and place it in drawers or something??? Weird, I know. #OverAchievers

But I think my most hated part of laundry is…socks! So to remedy the hours I’ve lost in my life that I’ll never get back matching socks, inevitably just to have my children respond that they can’t find said socks in their dresser…is a sock basket!

Place two baskets or bins in a centrally located spot in the house – for me, this is on top of my dryer in the laundry room – and designate one basket for adult socks and one basket for kid socks. Voila! No more matching socks. It has been a life changer in my household. Everyone knows where the socks are, there’s no more digging thru dresser drawers or laundry baskets to find a pair, and since mismatched socks are actually a fashion trend right now, the kids normally just grab the first two socks they see and go!

2.) Bathrooms

I’m very much a couponer by nature & generally not brand loyal to specific products. But this is not the case with my bathroom cleaner. Kaboom! is absolutely where it’s at. This product has cut down my cleaning time in the bathroom immensely.

If you haven’t tried it, it sprays on purple and turns white when it’s finished ‘doing its thang!’ No scrubbing, no elbow grease, the grim just wipes right off. If you haven’t tried this product, I highly recommend it.

3.) Paper clutter

More specifically, the mail. I tried implementing the ‘only touch it once’ concept, throwing junk mail away immediately, filing things that needed filed right away, etc. But life happens. Sometimes you can’t dedicate the time to fully deal with mail the second you walk in the house.

So, I grabbed a pack of wooden clothespins, and with a sharpie I labeled four of them:

  • Bills to pay
  • Needs filed
  • Needs read
  • Promo (coupons, offers you will actually use, etc.)

When I get inside, I quickly flip thru the mail dividing it into the categories, clip them together, and done. I can now move on with my day and come back to finish off the mail when time permits. These four categories work for our household, but you could make as many categories as you like. I do make a point as I’m quickly dividing up the mail to their appropriate clip to toss junk mail into the trash can immediately.

I hope these tips will help you gain back some of your time around the house! I’d love to hear from you in the comments below on things you do around the house to cut down on cleaning and increase functionality!
