I have been a mom for five years now, and Costco is one of the resources that is always in my toolbox. There are a thousand reasons to love Costco, but for me, it’s the quality you get for the value (and the chicken salad!). 

Here’s a classic Costco trip for me. Notice how many of the items I buy regularly are Kirkland Signature brand? Yeah, all of them. Of course, there are non-Kirkland Signature brand items I buy at Costco (like produce!) but I am consistently impressed at the quality of the KS items. Most of the time when you buy “store brand” it’s in an effort to save a few dollars and you end up compromising quality and feeling like the product is “not quite the same”. Not at Costco. So if you are brand loyal to one of the top brands in a category you’ll find it, but never be afraid to try KS brand, because it’s the same or better (and if you don’t love it, it’s guaranteed). Don’t believe me? So yes, they have all the everyday staples you love, but they have also become my go-to for special occasions and the holidays! Here’s how…

Holidays Made Easy with Costco

HOSTING & ENTERTAINING

You know those commercials where Christmas morning is all snuggly and warm with fresh baked goods and matching jammies? Costco can help you create that! Need fabulous new linens for the guest bed? Check. Delicious pumpkin muffins and coffee? For sure.  Everything you need to create an awesome meat and cheese board for the evening? Check. A beautiful pie for dessert? They have it.  Snuggly clothes for the adults and jammies for the kids? Yes! With Costco, you can be totally casual or totally fancy, or both (like me!).

DECORATING

Is it just me, or when you have people coming over do you also think it’s a great time to redecorate the whole house? Well, great news! Whether it’s a new bed for the guest room or seasonal decorations for inside and outside the home, they have it. Oh, and be sure to check out their seasonal plants – they always have something lovely for your porch or mantle.

GIFT-GIVING

Costco’s selection of toys is simply the best. My kids are completely enthralled with nearly everything in the toy aisles. But it’s not just toys, it’s also the batteries to put in them! They also have a great selection of books, puzzles, and DVDs too, not to mention the fabulous deals on gift cards that they offer ($100 for $80 anyone??). Oh, and the chocolates. Yum! One for you, two for me (if you know what I mean).

COOKING

The thing about Costco is this: if you are cooking everything , they’ve got your back, and if you are cooking nothing, they’ve got your back!

Here’s how it goes for me…I grab all my baking and cooking supplies (organic stock, chocolate chips, spices, wine (for deglazing, and for me!), produce, butter, eggs, etc.) and then I grab what we’re going to eat while I’m cooking. I don’t love to prepare food for everyone while I’m preparing food for everyone (can I get an amen?) so I grab croissants from the bakery and rotisserie chicken salad (my MOST FAVORITE thing at Costco!) and a bag of chips and let them fend for themselves. Oh, and grab a pizza. They’re HUGE and delicious, and they feed a family of 4 for days (plus you can get a FREE one if you become a member now!).

CARING FOR OTHERS

Costco can help you bless others during the holidays (and always)!

1. Buy individually packaged snacks (granola bars and trail mix) to make “Blessing Bags” for the homeless.
2. Grab a pre-made dinner (chicken caesar salad is my favorite) and leave it on someone’s porch, ring the doorbell and run.
3. Purchase gifts for families who might struggle to afford them (toys, books, gift cards, etc.).
