Sorry, Not Sorry (About my Kids Birthday Party)

0

sorry-not-sorryI like birthdays. I like parties. I like pinterest. I like crafting decorations. I like couponing and finding deals on food to serve at parties. I love to see my kid’s excitement at the birthday party. I like to see other kids happy.

There are many blogs about why we shouldn’t throw big parties for our kids such as this one. There are even bloggers who justify why we shouldn’t throw parties like this one. While I agree that many parents, including myself, overindulge their kids, I’m not sorry about throwing parties every year for my kids.

I have thrown quite a few parties in our small townhouse and kept the party to a reasonable budget. I have also rented a party room in a play cafe. I don’t think parties have to be extravagant and sometimes the most simple parties are the most memorable. I don’t think parties have to cost a lot of money. I’m excited when guests don’t bring gifts- although most do even when I have asked them not to. Its okay to come to a party without a gift, especially when the host has stated no gifts!

One of my favorite parties was my son’s 4th birthday with a batman theme. I spent less than $20 on decorations and about $100 on food. It was awesome!!! Most importantly, my son thought it was the coolest party ever!

batman-partyHere are my top 5 reasons why I’m not sorry that I’m going to host a party each year for my kids.

  1. Its fun! Its fun! Its fun!
  2. A party is a good excuse for family and friends to come together.
  3. A birthday party is a celebration of that child… we are so busy in life! Its okay to take a day each year to celebrate that individual.
  4. For younger children, inviting the kids is a good way to meet the parents.
  5. The birthday child will love it!

Do you throw parties for your kids?

Why or why not?

Hi, I’m Lisa and I’m a 30-something year old Mom to 2 adorable and active boys. Kamdyn is 6 months old and Kasyn is 3 years old. I have spent my professional career working with students with an autism spectrum disorder as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I currently work part-time with my husband through www.keyaba.com As a Mama and Wife, I grocery shop with coupons and try living a frugal life (although I’m not perfect). I also like to scrapbook and capture every moment possible. I love to travel. I’m getting better at meal-planning and cooking regularly. My boys and I are on-the-go and always taking advantage of various opportunities and activities around Dayton. My favorite things about motherhood are watching my children learn and discover and rough-housing with my boys.
