Last summer we ventured to a great place filled with natural learning. To me, this was a hidden gem, just west of Miamisburg. Our adventure at Learning Tree Farm started with a quick day trip to one of their many events and the love grew from there!
While talking to the education director Meredith Florkey, her love of teaching and growing young minds was abundantly clear. She described it best, “Humans learn best when all of their senses are engaged, they have time to investigate, and are able to have first hand real world experiences. I have dreamed of an educational environment that utilizes these principles. A place with daily concrete experiences in nature and ample time to explore. A place where I would want to learn and that I would want to send my children.”
This mom of three is on a mission and has found a great place to make it happen. I’m not what you would call a lover of nature. Bugs make me scream, trees make me sneeze and the outdoors have sent me into a panic mode. But I actually enjoy this place. I love knowing if I drop my kids off for a camp, or watch them explore the traditional farm facility at a family program, they are growing their minds and nurturing their little souls.
They are in the process of expanding their mission to include more repeatable programs including a nature based pre-school, this would be the first of its kind in the south Dayton area.

The Vintage Farm Fun event will be fantastic with Harvest Mobile Cuisine, 2 Cups Bakery, live music from the Kettering Banjo Society, a vintage fashion show with Finder’s Keepers, The Parish Apartment, Riley Street Vintage, Bea Unique Designs and Maggie Mae’s Colours, a kids craft, kids yoga with Imagination Yoga, craft beer and wine. Tickets are on sale now. Proceeds go to their patio restoration project as well as renovations at Learning Tree Farm’s new education building. This event would make a great mother’s day celebration for women or kids in your life. I hope to see a lot of you there to help us celebrate spring, motherhood, and the preschool idea!
