There is something so special about creating Christmas traditions with your children: hanging stockings, building gingerbread houses, and if you live in Dayton, a trip to Cincinnati to watch the Cincinnati Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker.

Last week, Frisch’s invited me to attend a tasting of their newest menu item followed by a trip to see The Nutcracker. Frisch’s recently unveiled a holiday twist on their classic dessert- Peppermint Hot Fudge Cake. Yes, you read that right. From November 30, 2016-February 7, 2017 over 95 Frisch’s locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana will be serving this limited edition peppermint dessert for $3.29. (Don’t worry you can still get the original hot fudge yumminess too if peppermint isn’t your thing.)

How most Moms feel about pumpkin spice, is the way I feel about peppermint. So to say that I gobbled up this beauty of a Christmas treat would be an understatement. Peppermint ice cream sandwiched between two pieces of chocolate cake and topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, and crushed candy canes. My mouth literally just started watering as I typed that.

cakeFollowing my sampling of the Peppermint Hot Fudge Cake, I made my way to the Aronoff Center in downtown Cincinnati for one of my favorite holiday traditions- watching The Nutcracker. From the first performance of The Nutcracker in 1974, Frisch’s Restaurants has been the ballet’s primary sponsor. In fact, it is one of the longest-lasting examples of corporate sponsorship in American arts history. This relationship is credited with helping to make those initial productions of The Nutcracker possible, and without it we may not have this classic holiday tradition we have today. So it only seems fitting that the dancers helped Frisch’s debut the first season seasonal holiday hot fudge cake flavor.

cakedancersAs a child, I loved getting dressed up with my Mom and sister for our annual tradition of seeing this classic ballet. The Cincinnati Ballet’s version was much more contemporary with neon costumes and I swear, some popping and locking. It pleasantly took me by surprise and I think it is a great way to introduce modern kids to a Christmas classic.

Traditions are about combining meaningful relationships with amazing experiences, as is evidenced by the partnership between Frisch’s and The Cincinnati Ballet. Sometimes those experiences are about tremendous performances, attended with your friends or family. And sometimes traditions can be built upon something as simple as a holiday treat shared with your husband and kids.

During the busiest season of the year, amidst the celebrations and and craziness, I strongly encourage you to take a break from it all and gather your family around the table. And if that table is at Frisch’s and you are indulging in some Peppermint Hot Fudge Cake I promise, you won’t regret it.

  1. Okay, so now I’m feeling a little sad that I clicked over to read this post, because obviously I don’t have a Frisch’s anywhere near me and I NEED THAT CAKE!!!
