The Morning Zoo! Why I am late for playdates.

0

Playdates are a mandated weekly occurrence in our household. What can I say? Momma needs some girl chat and my children thrive on going ninety to nothing at all times. Why not let them use up that energy outside of my recently mess free house? Planning the location, what day, or even the time to meet our friends pales in comparison to the pre-planning it takes me to attempt to get my boys there on time. Here’s a rundown of the typical playdate morning preparation:

7:30 My alarm goes off

7:35 Sneak out of bed trying to keep from waking the boys, who have made their way into our bed at some point in the middle of the night

7:40 Jump in the shower

7:50 Both boys poke their heads through the shower curtain asking for me breakfast

7:55 Jump out of shower, forgetting to wash my hair and get dressed

8:00 Fix cereal for the boys and head to the bathroom to dry my hair

8:10 Return from drying my hair to find one of them has spilled his entire bowl of cereal onto the floor

8:15 Clean up cereal and head to the laundry room to pick out clothes for them to wear

8:25 Return to find that I left the milk on the counter and the youngest has poured it on the couch

8:30 Grab paper towels while texting friend to let her know that we will be late.

8:40 Start getting the boys changed out of their pajamas and dressed only to realize I have grabbed two outfits of the same size.

8:45 Grab correct outfit and return to only have to search the house for the boys who have left to go play an impromptu game of hide and seek

8:50 Find them and manage to get them dressed and start putting on their shoes and socks

8:55 Argue with oldest about how it is going to have to be okay that his socks don’t match

9:00 Spend the next five minutes trying to win the sock argument, only have to have it again when he realizes that I couldn’t find matching socks for his younger brother either

9:05 Pin each boy down to put their shoes on and then head to get their jackets

9:10 Put youngest son’s shoes on for a second time because he is in the “Taking my shoes off is fun” stage

9:15 Walk out the door to the car and buckle them into their carseats

9:20 Oldest says he really has to go to the bathroom

9:25 Contemplate letting him pee in the driveway, then decide against it and take both boys back inside

9:35 Head back out to the car

9:40 Get both of the boys buckled back in and head to our previously scheduled 9 o’clock playdate

Whew, can you relate?

Amber
Hi Dayton Moms, my name is Amber! I am blessed with a wonderful husband of nine years along with two smart, rambunctious, and life-loving boys. I am originally from Alabama, but our family has very much grown to love this area and proud to call Dayton home! I am a stay at home mom as well as a certified postpartum doula and the owner of Delighted Doula. My passion, in addition to my family, is educating, assisting, and empowering mothers during the first few months after birth. When i’m not caring for mothers and their babies I’m searching for new allergy free recipes to make for my family (our son has a laundry list of allergies and intolerances,) meeting for coffee with friends, and finding new places for my boys to run off their energy! What I love best about motherhood is being a mom to two boys. Everything is an adventure to them and being taught how see life that way is so much fun!
