Buggy Art with a Preschooler: Part 2

Nothing says spring like Buggy ART! Are you ready for some projects with your preschooler? Here is a simple how-to for buggy art with a preschooler. ( If you are buzzing for bee art, see Part 1!)

Are your kids anxious to go outside to catch lightning bugs, otherwise known as fireflies? My son loves lightning bugs! This was a super fun craft for him but a little bit of a pain because it required materials that we don’t typically have lying around. After a quick trip to the store, we were ready to make our lightning bugs. My son loved his final project and flew his bug around the house!materials for lightning bug

Lightning Bug Craft

Materials:

  • Glow stick
  • Mountain Dew Bottle
  • chenille sticks
  • black construction paper
  • glue gun/sticks
  • Permanent marker (optional)

Steps:

  1. Gather Materials
  2. Optional: Decorate the outside of the bottle using the permanent marker.
    • This was a lot of fun for my son to try to hold the bottle and draw on the curved surface. Use a permanent marker at your own risk!
  3. Snap a glow stick or 2 and put it inside the bottle.
  4. Cut out the black construction paper to look like wings.
  5. Use the glue gun to attach the wings to the bottle.
  6. Wrap the Chenille stick around the top of the bottle to look like antennae.

Here is the final product:

Hi, I’m Lisa and I’m a 30-something year old Mom to 2 adorable and active boys. Kamdyn is 6 months old and Kasyn is 3 years old. I have spent my professional career working with students with an autism spectrum disorder as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I currently work part-time with my husband through www.keyaba.com As a Mama and Wife, I grocery shop with coupons and try living a frugal life (although I’m not perfect). I also like to scrapbook and capture every moment possible. I love to travel. I’m getting better at meal-planning and cooking regularly. My boys and I are on-the-go and always taking advantage of various opportunities and activities around Dayton. My favorite things about motherhood are watching my children learn and discover and rough-housing with my boys.
