One of the many things I loved about Dayton when I first moved here was the incredible selection of grocery stores all around town. No matter what your shopping preference may be, you’re pretty much covered. Despite the love you have for your particular grocery store of choice, chances are your kids may not love to go shopping quite as much as you do.

For the most part, my 3 year old is pretty patient as I hurriedly push our cart through the aisles, but it’s not for lack of bribery on my part. Lately though, my mom-guilt has been getting the best of me and I’ve been trying to think of a different way (other than relying on the iPad) to entertain him during our trips. It finally dawned on me the other day: why don’t I get him involved in the shopping? No, I don’t mean I’m going to turn him loose to grab everything his little heart desires (oh, but would he ever love it!). Instead, I decided to make him his very own little shopping list and I want to share it with you too!

There are a number of ways these little cards could be used. Personally, I printed them out, laminated them back-to-back, and let him use a dry-erase crayon (yes, those are real & awesome) to check off each item he sees in the store. If you have older kids you could let them play bingo, or give one card to each child so they’re “in charge” of a certain area of the grocery store. Whatever you choose to do, I hope it gives your kids a fun new way to experience your shopping trip!

(Sidenote: If you don’t already have a laminator, get one! Seriously. You can get an inexpensive one such as this one, Scotch PRO Thermal Laminator, 2 Roller System (TL906), from Amazon and it’ll change your life. There are so many wonderful printables all over the internet that are perfect candidates for lamination!)
