Keep Summer Safe with Swim Tips from Aqua-Tots

This post is part of a sponsored relationship with Aqua-Tots. We are thrilled to partner with them in their efforts to keep our little ones safe in the water.

Mamas, we KNOW that you care about keeping your kids safe. We also know that no matter how hard we try, those little ones can be quick. This can make the summer pool season feel a little scary as we necessarily ramp up that vigilance around the water. Fortunately for us, there are some local experts right here in our backyard who not only know an incredible amount about teaching the skills of swimming, they also want to keep our kiddos as safe in and around water as we do.

Allow up to introduce you to Aqua-Tots Swim School. With locations in both Springboro and Beavercreek, Aqua-Tots strives to not only provide swim education, but to also be a resource to the community.

Which leads us to their top 4 tips for swim safety.

The ABC’s of Swim Safety

A = Adult Supervision – Keep responsible eyes on those little ones always.
B = Barriers – Make sure gates are locked and fences are up between those curious littles and bodies of water.
C = Classes. Nothing can replace the security provided by a solid swim education.

Flotation Devices

Were you aware that flotation devices, such as life-vests and puddle jumpers can be overused? We weren’t either. While they certainly have their role in safety, especially when boating or at those summer parties where it can be hard to keep tabs on everyone all the time, it is recommended that children also be allowed to experience the water (with supervision) without the aid of the flotation device. According to Aqua-Tots, they need to know what it feels like to go under the water and to get used to the way their bodies move in the water. Check out this video to hear this explained in more detail.

Boundaries

As parents, we don’t think twice about setting limits for safety. We have bike helmets for our little riders. We hold their hands in parking lots. We teach them to look both ways when crossing the street. Setting expectations and boundaries around water safety is just as important!

Hold Their Breath

Swim safety is truly the sum of all of its parts and learning to swim entails more than just learning to stay afloat. It never would have occurred to us to teach our kiddos to hold their breath, but check out this video to find out why the experts at Aqua-Tots say it’s so important.

And last, but not least…

Swim Lessons

I think we all understand why learning the skills of swimming are important not only for safety, but for helping make the summer season to be FUN as well. It goes without saying that Aqua-Tots does swim lessons well. They not only focus on the actual act of swimming, but they also teach survival skills, such as holding your breath underwater. They even offer a condensed Fast Track program that is designed to get them summer ready in a shorter two week time period.

If you haven’t made this investment yet, now is the time to do so!
