Celebrating Adoption

1

How many of you saw pictures, like this one with the smiley face on a hand, circulating on social media last November in celebration of World Adoption Day? On November 9th, for the 5th year in a row, our family will celebrate, World Adoption Day. Stuck right at the beginning of November it sets the scene for National Adoption Month. World Adoption Day began as a movement of birth mothers, adoptees, adoptive parents and those who have been touched by adoption. (worldadoptionday.org)

#WorldAdoptionDay is a declaration that every child deserves a family.

World Adoption Day was created by Hank Fortener, a native of Waynesville, Ohio and an amazing man that we have had the privilege to meet and hear him share about his vision adopttogether.org, a crowd fundraising avenue that has helped over 2,200 families adopt and we were one of those families. (You can read one of our adoption stories, HERE).

Has your family been touched by adoption? The month of November is the perfect chance to talk about it, share about it, and even take that next step if you are considering adoption for your family.

This is a time to celebrate the children, parents, mothers, fathers and brave ones we call family.

Last year, it was so fun to see posts from our kids, our daughter in law and even our exes post on social media with the smiley face on their hand in celebration of World Adoption Day.

Will you join us? Take a pic and post it on November 9th! Share how adoption has touched your life in the comments! #worldadoptionday #nationaladoptionmonth

Hey local mommas! I grew up in Centerville, but I now live in Wilmington with my husband Tony. Together we have 6 kids, Joe, and his wife Allison, Austin, and his wife Hannah, Sydney and her husband Hayden, Andrew and his wife Lauren and our littles, Max and Eli. Did I mention we are a little nuts starting over with this parenting thing when we are 45+? We are officially adding new titles to our names in 2022- Tiki and Jeep (our version of Grandma and Grandpa). My husband and I are both ministers, and we get to work together in a local church. We were both married before and brought our families together in 2010. After a few years of marriage we felt God's leading for us to adopt. We added Max to our family in 2014 and Eli joined us in 2017, our quiver is officially full! Blending our family has been an adventure! Add some ex-spouses and two birth mommas and we have ourselves a crazy crew! Coffee is my love language. The beach is my happy place and I long to have my toes in the sand. I love being part of the team at Dayton Mom Collective.

  1. Yes! We haven’t been touched by adoption yet, but we sure have been touched by foster care! This year I’m excited to hear more stories from adoptees- I feel like sometimes their voices aren’t as outspoken.
