The Art of Boudoir

Have you ever been scrolling through Facebook or Instagram and come across a beautiful lady in lingerie or perhaps boy shorts and knee high socks and thought, could I do something like that? Then continue scrolling because your inner self-conscious voice said, ” You absolutely could not do that, you look nothing like those women.” Well, I was one of you. I had a friend who posted about a local boudoir photographer and I immediately was intrigued. However, I am a very self-conscious girl, so that inner voice deterred my adventure. It would take a lot for me to book one of these very raw, very vulnerable sessions.

Flash forward to my birthday and being 7 months pregnant with my first child. My mother gave me a pretty envelope tied with a pink bow. I opened it up to find a piece of paper stating she had booked me a boudoir session! I was a flurry of emotion! I was excited, nervous, anxious, and overwhelmed. I would be 8 months pregnant for my session. How can someone make me look beautiful when I feel like a whale!?

Walking up to the bright pink doors at Blush Boudoir, I knew it was going to be a day I wouldn’t forget. As soon as I sat down in the makeup chair my nerves started to subside. EVERYONE was so sweet, complimentary, caring, and the whole atmosphere seemed to just magically make me feel CONFIDENT!

Even though my session was just for me, my photographer allowed my hubby to come at the end and we took some sexy couples shots. Poor guy even got in his undies. Some of these adorn our bedroom walls, however, a little too risky and personal to share with you all.

A boudoir session gives you a sense of pride. It restores your self confidence and allows you to see just how beautiful you are, even with your flaws! I hear all the time from others who have done a boudoir session, “I couldn’t believe that was me in the pictures!” It truly is an experience I believe every woman deserves to give HERSELF!

Here is a quick list of my how to do boudoir right:

  1. Do your research! Make sure it is a REAL business with referrals and testimonies. Do not book with someone who has to advertise on a buy/ sell site.
  2. Find a photographer who shoots ALL types of women. We are not all equal. A QUALITY boudoir photographer knows how to shoot all women beautifully.
  3. Talk with your photographer before the shoot. Make sure you are comfortable with their ideas.
  4. Relax and be open to being vulnerable
  5. Enjoy yourself!
