Mom Secrets from the Future

2

Hey Moms. Tired, overworked and frazzled Moms. Moms of babies and toddlers. You are the ones who need to hear this most, I’m sure.

I’m from the future and I want to share a secret with you: It’s going to be ok.

You will get past the crying that you can’t figure out and the naptime struggles and sippy cup disasters. You will. And those times when your family ate macaroni and cheese for 3 days straight because hitting the grocery store while dragging little kids and a baby carrier in with you wasn’t worth fresh veggies? Gone with the wind.

It will be a slow transformation that you won’t notice at first. But you’ll wake up one morning, completely rested. And you’ll find your child eating cereal in the kitchen. And then you’ll figure out you have this thing called “free time” and maybe even read a book or do crafts that YOU like.

And hot coffee. Oh the hot coffee!

It’s going to be ok. One day, you will have this parenting thing down, and your kids will sleep-and you will sleep- and they will get into bed at night after brushing their own teeth. They will get their own snacks and even clean up after themselves. Oh, fine, I don’t want to lie to you…But they will get themselves dressed, tie their own shoes and warm the car for you. After school, they will sit and talk about their day- yes, part of their day that you missed- but it will be the most wonderful thing to hear how your sweet little baby from yesterday, is now a kind-hearted friend today.

You will get here much faster than you think. You will miss your sweet babes that fit in your arms and sat in a car seat, waiting for you to buckle them up. But there is a whole new and exciting world with bigger kids. They have the best personalities and will teach you more than how to soothe their cries. They will teach you that all along, when you thought you were failing at being a mom, you were really doing a perfect job of it! For if not, how could these wonderful medium-sized people exist?

So breathe in your little babies, and take deep breaths when everything is falling apart. And as you exhale, just remember that you’re doing a great job, and someday your kids will show you that.

It’s going to be ok.

Audrey M.
Hey Ya'll! I’m Audrey, a middle of nowhere, East Tennessee transplant. My husband (and forever crush) Andy and I were born and raised in Ohio State Buckeye territory, where we met in junior high school and married halfway through college. We have 2 tweens here on Earth: Lucas-the sweetest jokester boy you will ever meet, and Alaina-a charismatic and responsible redhead. We were hoping for a bigger family, but it wasn’t in the cards for us. For years we vacationed here in and around Knoxville, and so when the opportunity came to move here, we took it! Prior to moving here, I was first and foremost a Wife and Mother, but filled my days at a special needs preschool, title company, and as a FT volunteer-a-holic. In my spare time, I love diy, crafting, reading and writing. And I will always be a barefoot farm girl at heart. We raise/grow our own food- and I occasionally even make dinner out of our homegrown goodness- but I hate cooking! I can’t wait to immerse myself in this sweet, southern community!

  1. I loved this, Audrey!!! It was absolutely something that I needed to hear after endless toddler tantrums, snotty noses and washing bottles. Thanks for giving me hope for the future! I will soak up the cuddles and the sweet, sticky hands that are ALL over me today, but I will also look forward to the day when I can go to the bathroom by myself and maybe even read a chapter in a book without interruption!!

    • Thanks Suzanne!

I remember those days and how they felt like they would stretch on forever. It seemed like everyone would say “you’ll miss this”, but no one told me if I just hung on a few years, it would get so much easier! Watching my kids grow has been the most amazing thing about parenting. I love seeing the people they are becoming!
