Dear Momma, You Are Amazing!

Dear Momma,

This letter is to express the gratitude that is not always given. You do so much for everyone and find a way to ensure that everyone’s needs are met before your own. Not everyone could do your job, but you find a way to do it with grace. You make sure those lunches are packed, the house is clean, the laundry is done, the bills are paid, dinner is cooked, the booboos are kissed and everyone is to bed on time. If you work outside of the house you still are able to get all of these things done. No one tells you how amazing you are. No one tells you how amazing it was that you worked through your pregnancy, completed home projects and still managed to complete college classes. No one tells you how amazing it was that you gave up so much to bring your child or children into the world. Not just the things that everyone can see, but those pieces that make you up that you wouldn’t dare let your children see you do. Those crazy nights in college are far behind you and your Saturday nights are now made up of cuddles on the couch and a glass of wine after the munchkins go to bed.

You are amazing for the humiliation we sometimes encounter when out in public with a child. I’ve had my share of bathroom trips when out and about and know that there are no secrets in the women’s bathroom when you go in with your child, I’ve been cheered for using the bathroom and given that “my gosh mommy what is that stuff” look when it has been that time of the month.  Momma, you are amazing for giving up your sense of fashion. No longer do we go out in public in our heels and fanciest clothing with our hair all done. We are lucky to make it out the door in a shirt with no stains and hair pulled back into a pony tail. Momma you are amazing for giving up your date nights because let’s be honest, even with a baby-sitter we sit there and fret about them.

And momma, let’s be honest, some of our friends no longer call or text because we are now mommas. We like to think that one day they will understand, but recognize that might never happen because we have gone to the other side, married with kids or just with kids. Momma you are amazing and will continue to be amazing despite all the factors that are held against us. We get blamed when our kids misbehave, we don’t get credit when they do behave, and the world looks at us with judging eyes when really they need to honor how amazing we really are. God forbid our child cry in public. The world seems to stop and every eye in the store is on you when those tears start. Why can’t someone comment on wow that momma is keeping it together rather than why can’t that momma control her kid. Momma you are amazing. You created a life. You merged your life in with new life and find a way to make it great. You hold it together, when you just want to curl up and cry. You endure body fluids of all sort all over you and do it with a smile on your face. No one wants that stuff on them but we manage to hold it together. Momma, in case someone hasn’t told you lately. You are amazing!
