Help a Girl Out!

0

I am lucky enough to have a job where I can drop my son off at school before heading into work. But there are some days where I really could use a helping hand from one of the other mamas who are dropping their kiddos off, too.

Let’s set the scene. It’s pouring rain and my van is not in the garage where getting both kids into it without looking like drowned rats could easily occur. My son, of course, wants to wear his rain boots because…duh, it’s raining! Well, no matter how many times I tell him to run straight to the van and get in, he decides to gingerly walk to it and splash in every puddle along the way. Meanwhile, I’m collecting my daughter, my work things, locking the door, and making a beeline to the van. Once both kids are buckled in and I am successfully drenched, it’s off to school for round 2! The whole drive I am praying it will not be raining across town because the song and raindance will repeat in 5 short minutes if it is.

I pull up and get in the drop-off line wishing, just one day, one of the other moms who see me have to get my daughter out and then put her back in, in the rain, will offer to walk my son into school. See, this used to be an option when we had a friend whose daughter was in our son’s preschool class. She has since moved to kindergarten and I am once again all alone in a sea of other moms.

Well, today after I have had just about enough of the soaking wet stressful mornings, I took charge! I posted in our school’s mom group that I am creating a Google document where we can list when we would need help (delays, snow days, drop-offs, pick-ups) and the response was fantastic!

“It takes a village to raise a child” is a saying I’ve always heard. Well, we live in the Village of Enon and it seems all I had to do was ask and, low and behold, tons of other moms need help, too!

Now, hopefully, less stress will occur on rainy mornings for me and school delays and closings won’t completely wreck the days of the other moms with less flexible schedules!

I challenge you to offer OR ask another mom for help next week and tell me about it in the comments!
