7 Places to Go on a Rainy Day in Dayton

2

Rainy days can take a toll on kids who need to burn off energy and the sanity of us moms who need to entertain them.

It’s raining, it’s pouring, the kids think everything is boring!

Oh, that’s not how it goes? If you see rain in the forecast, no need to fear – just bookmark this post and save these local favorites for the next time you just need some indoor fun outside your house!

Before you plan your indoor fun, check for any one-time events in our Dayton Dozen!
Our team members put these together every month and include the things we’ve found that we’re most looking forward to!

1. Boonshoft– Both of my boys (ages 1 and 3) love it here! From live animals to interactive exhibits to a pizza parlor (my son’s favorite), your children are sure to be entertained for hours!

2. Aullwood Nature Center – There are several rooms full of puzzles, play tables, dress ups, animals to look at it, and a bird-watching room with great views.

3. Run Around Fun Town– There are inflatables, playground equipment and themed interactive rooms.  My son loves coming here and I love that he is burning off energy as he plays, which usually means a good nap (unless he falls asleep in the car-a mom’s worst nightmare.)

4. Carriage Hill Farm– Most go here to see the farm animals outside but there is also a room inside for kids to dress up and play house and school.  We have been known to head here on rainy days and just hang out in this room for a while.  Plus, there is a penny candy store downstairs. How could you go wrong?

5. Scene 75– This place is a kid’s paradise. With arcade games, inflatables and many other attractions your kids will be smiling from the time they enter until the time they leave (unless they are throwing a fit because they don’t want to leave. In that case, you may need to stop by The Center Bar.)  You determine how much you want to spend here so it can be budget-friendly!

Be sure to check out our guide to all our favorites!

6. FREE Indoor PlayspacesWho goes to the mall to shop anyway?  You can get your exercise in by doing some stroller laps around the mall and then stop by the play area so the kids can run around and burn off some steam. Dayton Mall, Fairfield Commons Mall, and Liberty Town Center all have places to burn off some steam inside for free. Our team mamas also recommend Fairhaven Church and Stillwater Church for clean, fun indoor play.

7. The Library- Our local library is another place we frequent often when the weather gets icky.  (Well we did a lot more prior to having my second son who is a screamer. Screaming at the top of his lungs+quiet library=dirty looks.)  There are usually toys set out in the children’s section along with puzzles and, of course, books!  It’s a great way to get out of the house and you could even pick up a book or two for yourself! (Probably to sit untouched on your nightstand for months accruing late fees. Oh, is that only me?)

Megan Gariety
I am the mother to two of the most well behaved children in the history of children. They listen the first time around, always clean up their messes and sleep peacefully through the night. I greet my husband at the door each night looking like a million bucks with a dinner on the table that even Martha Stewart would envy. Lies. All of it. I am blessed to be a mother to two red haired (in looks and personality) boys who are so full of energy and life you can't help but to smile. They are not known to listen the first time, sleep through the night or clean up after themselves, but they do give the worlds best kisses, so it pretty much evens out. I do greet my husband at the door each night, but usually in sweats and with a baby in hand to give to him so I can run back to the stove before dinner burns. Aside from running a non-perfect household, I also work at home sharing my Plexus health and wellness business. My faith is important to me and guides my decision making in life (minus the time I had terrible bangs in middle school-there is no way that was a God thing.) My husband proposed to me by golden ticket inside of a Willy Wonka bar and that pretty much sums up our entire relationship. My favorite phrase is "it will change your life" but it is usually only true 10% of the time. My favorite things about motherhood: taught me what unconditional love really means and finally having an excuse to wear sweats every day!
