September Dayton Dozen: Family Friendly Events!

The kids are back to school now, and I think we are all trying to figure out where the summer went. Amiright?!?!

It’s all good, Let it Go (the cold never bothered me anyway) and dive into these fun events that September is bringing our way!



1) Giant Scale Radio-Controlled Model Aircraft Show @ USAF Museum – WPAFB

DMB Tip**** Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Also, there will be a “halftime” performance show from 11am-1pm each day.

  • Friday-Sunday, September 1-3, 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • FREE
  • All ages 

Visitors will see some of history’s well-known airframes at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force over Labor Day weekend, but they won’t be the ones inside the galleries. Instead, scale versions of those aircraft will fly over the museum, regaling spectators with daring aerobatics.

2) Saturday Night Fox Hollow Rodeo – Waynesville

DMB Tip*** Alcohol is prohibited at Fox Hollow Rodeo and no food or drinks may be carried in. They do have a full service snack bar including pretzels, hot dogs etc.

  • Cost: Adults $8 | Children $4 (6-12yrs)
  • All ages (although noise is a factor for babies)

Fox Hollow Rodeo offers something for everyone with both novice and jackpot bull riding, calf riding and sheep riding (also known as “mutton bustin”) for the younger cowboys and cowgirls. Free pony rides and line dancing are held during intermission. Experience good old-fashioned Americana!

3) Poochie-Paddle @ Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center – Miamisburg

DMB Tip*** Proceeds will benefit the Miamisburg Community Foundation’s dog park fund!

  • Cost: $5 per tail
  • All ages
 Squeeze every last bit out of summer and enjoy the pool and sunshine with your kids and your pups! See who can doggy paddle the best, maybe? Raffle opportunities for all participants.  

4) Clinton County Corn Festival @ Clinton Co. Fair – Wilmington

DMB Tip*** All food vendors are sponsored by a local non-profit organization. The profits of the Corn Festival are put right back into the community with scholarships and donations. Check out the schedule of events on their Facebook page!

Come to the 40th annual Clinton County Corn Festival. Help celebrate our agricultural heritage as we honor one of the area’s biggest industries with a three-day extravaganza. The festival features antique farm machinery, a parade, games, all types of food made from corn, a quilt show, musical entertainment, antiques and crafts and the Corn Olympics (Saturday 7:00pm)!

5) Evening of Astronomy: Cassini @ Boonshoft – Dayton

DMB Tip***Admission to this educational program is FREE and does not require a ticket; fees apply to the Pink Floyd Special Effects Shows following at 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 (advance ticket purchase is recommended).

On September 15, 2017, after nearly 20 years in space, NASA’s Cassini spacecraft will plunge into Saturn’s atmosphere, sending back new and unique science to the very end. Find out what has been discovered about the planet, its rings, and moons during the 13 years Cassini has been orbiting Saturn. 

Weather permitting, live observing will continue throughout the evening in the Apollo Observatory.

6) The 22nd Annual Woolgathering @ Young’s Dairy – Yellow Springs

DMB Tip****  Vendors will be there from all over the country, so bring that allowance!

  • All ages

Observe sheep, llamas, alpacas, cashmere goats, Angora rabbits and other wool-bearing animals at the show.  There will be shearing demonstrations, wool spinning, weaving and much more to see and learn. 

7) SkyRobics @ Sky Zone – Dayton

DMB Tip*** You can burn up to 1,000 calories while having fun with your older kids!

  • Thursday, September 21, 7:00pm
  • $10 per class (or purchase a 10 Class Get Fit Pass for $80)
  • 12 yrs & up

SkyRobics is for all abilities.  Athletic clothing is recommended. Be sure to bring your own water bottle. Sky socks are included with ticket purchase. Feel that oh-so-rewarding burn in your legs, arms, and core over an hour of fitness disguised as fun. 

8) Apple Fest @ Aullwood Audobon Farm & Center – Dayton

DMB Tip*** Go early to make sure you beat the crowds!

  • Saturday & Sunday, September 23 & 24, 10:00am – 5:00pm

  • All ages

From delicious foods to live entertainment, it’s a treat for all ages. Try your hand at the cider press, make a funny paper hat, and sample a fresh baked apple pie to make it a festival to remember. Hear tales from Johnny Appleseed and get a free apple — always a highlight! Listen to music and laugh and learn with Chris Rowlands’ songs and puppets. Free children’s activities will keep the little ones entertained with crafts and games. Meet farm animal friends and go on a tractor or draft horse pulled wagon ride.

9) Dayton Parent Magazine KidsFEST @ Five Seasons Family Sports Club – Dayton

DMB Tip*** Use masking tape to write your name and phone number and secure it to the underside of your kid’s shirts in case you get separated in the crowd.

Enjoy this free event for the whole family!  Activities include face painting, characters, pony rides, inflatables, lots of local business booths with activities/giveaways and drawings plusthe very popular Cover Kid Contest! Dayton Parent Magazine KidsFest will connect area schools, businesses and service providers with the community in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. Families will have a chance to gather valuable information, while kids enjoy face painting, balloon artists, character greetings, inflatables, food, prizes and much more! 

10) Autumn Fest @ Learning Tree Farm -Dayton

  • Cost: $10 per Family of up to 8, $2 for each add’l person

Learning Tree Farm’s annual Autumn Fest is their most popular event of the year.You are invited to not only support LTF’s mission of providing hands-on educational experiences in a traditional farm setting, but to spend the day HAVING FUN with family and friends! Check out some of the activities: Farm animals- including llamas, milking goats, cows, pigs, chickens, and miniature ponies! Food trucks, crafts, games, pony rides and a pumpkin chuck! 

11) Ohio Renaissance Festival – Waynesville
