Buggy Art with a Preschooler: Part 1

0

Spring is ALMOST here! So excited to get outside and enjoy everything that comes with warmer weather. Since we can’t be outside ALL day, indoor projects are fun too!

I have a 3.5 year old boy who is active… like on the move all the time! How does he move so much? When will he just sit nicely and do something quietly? I have no idea! But in the meantime, I do my best to keep him busy. Its been so rainy outside that keeping him busy has been challenging. My son loves bugs and he sometimes enjoys doing art projects. It can be difficult to think of art projects that are fun! Pinterest has cost me hours of my life. I love to be creative but my projects often don’t turn out like they do on Pinterest. “Creativity is a drug I cannot live without” (– Cecil B. DeMille) My goal is to share some simple craft ideas for preschoolers!

Here is a simple how-to for buggy art with a preschooler. This will be a 2-part blog. The first will be busy bees with finger painting. The second will be lightning bugs with a Mountain Dew bottle.

Busy Bees

Materials:

  •  white and tan (or any color) construction paper
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • yellow and orange paint
  • crayon

materials for bee craft

Steps:

  1. Get prepared by pre-cutting a bee hive shape on the tan colored construction paper.
  2. Glue the bee hive shape onto the white construction paper.
  3. Put the paint on a paper plate for easy clean up.
  4. Encourage the preschooler to use finger tips to make a bee hive. We used orange paint for the bee hive.
  5. Encourage the preschooler to use his thumb to make a few bees above the bee hive.bee project
  6. After it draws, use the crayon to draw stripes and antennae on the bees.

The finished product will be a bee hive

with your little ones precious finger prints.

Stay tuned for the next part of Buggy Art with a Preschooler.

Hi, I’m Lisa and I’m a 30-something year old Mom to 2 adorable and active boys. Kamdyn is 6 months old and Kasyn is 3 years old. I have spent my professional career working with students with an autism spectrum disorder as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I currently work part-time with my husband through www.keyaba.com As a Mama and Wife, I grocery shop with coupons and try living a frugal life (although I’m not perfect). I also like to scrapbook and capture every moment possible. I love to travel. I’m getting better at meal-planning and cooking regularly. My boys and I are on-the-go and always taking advantage of various opportunities and activities around Dayton. My favorite things about motherhood are watching my children learn and discover and rough-housing with my boys.
